In the light of the previously described situation, Europe's steelmakers are subjected to strong import pressure. The situation is aggravated by protectionism in the United States, channeling world steel export streams to other inlets. Eurofer experts note that importers did not match delivery cuts made by the domestic steel industry in response to destocking and have therefore significantly increased their market share while provoking serious disruption in certain product areas. Due to the pressure exerted by substantial import volumes on the EU market, bringing supply back into balance with demand has been difficult, even though deliveries of EU producers to their domestic market fell in the first half of this year.
