A mathematical model of a singlehyphen;arm xhyphen;ray pulsehyphen;height analyzer (PHA) system is developed. Given an assumption on the electron temperature and density profiles, a maximum likelihood technique is applied to calculate the peak electron temperature and enhancement factor of the plasma. This method is currently being used in the analysis of xhyphen;ray data from the tokamak fusion test reactor (TFTR); sample results are presented.
