We present measurements of thermally averaged levelhyphen;tohyphen;level rate constants for vibrationally and rotationally inelastic collisions of I2(Bthinsp;3Pgr;) with Xe and He:Iast;2(vx=13,ji=41 or 91)thinsp;rarr;thinsp;Iast;2(vf=12,jf). Comparison of these results with our previous work on the same systems for rotationally inelastic collisions with no vibrational inelasticity reveals a similarity in the collision dynamics for the vibrationally inelastic and vibrationally elastic processes.
