Chemiluminescence from the reactions: I2+F2; I2+F2+O2(1Dgr;); and I2+F+O2(1Dgr;) has been studied. All three reactions produced emission from theBthinsp;3Pgr;(0+)rarr;Xthinsp;1Sgr;+system of IF. The two reactions utilizing O2(1Dgr;) produced much higher chemiluminescent intensities than did the I2+F2reaction. The photon yield of the I2+F+O2(1Dgr;) reaction was measured to be 0.3percnt;. Rotational and vibrational temperatures in IF(B) were determined. Rotational temperatures were approximately 300 K while nonthermal vibrational distributions were observed. Possible mechanisms of IF(B) production are discussed.
