FE simulation of tension levelling process for clad sheet metalswas performed using an elastic- plastic FE code developed by thepresent authors. It was found from the simulation that the elongationof the clad strip in the course of levelling is much smaller thanthat of monolithic strips of its component metals. The elongation andthe final flatness of the clad strip are strongly affected by thestrip-set condition (the situation of whether the work-roll contactlayer is the stainless steel or the aluminium). Based on thenumerical simulation, the optimal process design of the tensionlevelling was investigated for two different types ofroll-arrangements.
