摘要

A study has been conducted of the isothermal and non-isothermal crystallization of semicrystalline polymer Trogamid CX7323, a commercial polyamide with superior properties, which is used in high-end products to replace materials such as Nylon 6. Differential scanning calorimetry is employed to monitor the exothermic heat flow during the phase transition from the amorphous to crystalline state. During isothermal crystallization from 230 to 233 C, the relative crystallinity development with time is described by the Avrami equation, with Avrami exponent n ranging from 2.00 to 2.22. In this temperature range, the value of the Avrami exponent n may indicate diffusion-related nucleation and crystal growth. For non-isothermal crystallization, Trogamid films are crystallized from the melt using cooling rates from 1 to 10 C min~(-1). A modified Avrami equation is used to describe the crystallization kinetics, which shows the exponent n ranging from 3.00 to 3.52. Direct observation from real-time polarized optical microscopy (POM) provides evidence of growth of 3-D spherulitic crystal structure during both isothermal melt crystallization and non-isothermal cooling from the melt. The linear growth rate of Trogamid spherulites is found to be 1.6 μm min ~(-1) for crystallization at 230 C.
