While newly-elected Alberta Premier Jason Kenney ran on getting the Trans Mountain Expansion Project in through British Columbia completed so as to find more outlets for Alberta oilsands, BC Premier John Horgan suggested on April 26 that Alberta would be better served to abandon the pipe and build a refinery in the Canadian province instead. "Most refineries are usually close to the source of the product. I would suggest Alberta has more expertise in this area and it might be a better place for new refining capacity."
