Raman spectra of compacted fused silica are presented. Fused silica was sujected to a pressure of 9.0 GPa for 1 hr at 23thinsp;deg;C. The density of the compacted silica was 2.40 g cmminus;3compared to 2.22 g cmminus;3for the uncompacted glass. Various interesting features of the spectrum are discussed. (AIP)
