According to the EIA US energy consumption reached a record 101 quadrillion Btu last year.Over 81 quadrillion Btu of diis energy consumption was derived from fossil fuels(coal,natural gas,and petroleum),making fossil fuels the dominant energy provider for die US in 2018.Coal consumption was down 4.3 from 2017 levels in 2018 to 687MM short tons,marking the fifth consecutive annual decline in US coal consumption as power providers continue to switch to cheaper shale gas.Natural gas consumption increased in 2018 to a record 82.IB cf(2.3B m3)/d,with US gas consumption up 37 since 2005.Petroleum consumption as petroleum product supplied also hit a record equivalent of 20.5MM b/d.
