Tyrannohex composites processed by UBE Industries is a newcomposite concept, which is based on a very high fiber voluniefraction (typically 90). Due to the strong interfacial bonding at thefiber-matrix interface, Tyrannohex composites behave rather as linearelastic bimaterials at rooin temperature, but a gradual changeoperates at high temperature ( 1200 deg. C), where the compositeeffect appears and a large non linear region is shown on tensilestress-strain curves. The change is mainly connected to thecrystallization of the silica matrix into cristobalite. All thesefeatures are discussed, along with observations under transmissionelectron microscopy.
