Just as in May this year Alcan Singen dismantled the last two of its original five chamber furnaces for the annealing of rolled coils, the modernisation of the annealing plant was completed. The company is now completely committed to a new furnace concept, in which furnace chambers loaded from underneath will each receive a coil. This has made annealing operations considerably more flexible. Today, Alcan Singen operates a total of 2 X 15 furnace chambers. The first of these has been reviewed in detail in this journal. After that account of the new furnace concept, all the well-known furnace companies have meanwhile included such equipment in their product range. It is apparent that European rolling mills are gradually converting to this annealing concept.
