An experimental technique has been specifically developed for the determination of heating inequivalence errors in the use of electrically calibrated pyroelectric optical detectors. The technique is based upon an analog simulation of detector response. A null balance current detection method is used to eliminate preamplifier distortion errors. The technique is similar to thermal pulse methods used in the study of electret materials and may, therefore, find further application in this area. In addition, the technique may be adapted to allow investigation of thermally stimulated relaxation effects in the audiofrequency range.
