摘要

Size-selective predation by fish has a major structuring effect on zooplankton communities, often leading to dominance of small species, such as Bosmina and Ceriodaphnia (BROOKS DODSON 1965). Moreover, in the presence of fish, individual cladoceran species may decrease in mean size (CERNY BYTEL 1991) and begin reproduction at a smaller size (MACHACEK 1991, STIBOR 1992). Because fish remains are poorly preserved in lake sediments, well-preserved cladoceran remains have been used to describe historical development of fish predation intensity in palaeolim-nological studies (KERFOOT 1974, KITCHELL KITCHELL 1980, LEAVITT et al. 1989, SALO et al. 1989, VERSCHUREN MARNELL 1997). JEPPESEN et al. (1996) established a first quantitative transfer function between cladoceran remains and planktivo-rous fish CPUE. Recently, JEPPESEN et al. (2002) suggested Daphnia ephippia size as an easy indicator of the planktivorous fish abundance.
