Single crystals of glycine, glycinehyphen;d3, and glycinehyphen;d2have been x irradiated at liquidhyphen;nitrogen temperatures and the paramagnetic fragments produced examined as a function of temperature by electron spin resonance techniques. The radicals observed in the temperature range 77ndash;300deg;K include: Cdot;H2Nplus;H3, Nplus;H3CH2Cdot;OOminus;(H), Cdot;H2COO(H), Ndot;H2plus;CH2COOminus;, and Nplus;H3CHCOOminus;. The production of these radicals can be rationalized by a sequence of reactions which involve initially formed cation and anion radicals.
