Biomanipulation through fish removal is a practical way of restoring eutrophic northern lakes. Comparing measured phosphorus and chlorophyll a values to data adopted from the literature (SARVALA et al. 1997; Fig. 4) seems to be a good tool to evaluate the need and impact of biomanipulation. This case was started with light pre-studies and goals for biomanipulation. In southern Finland the recommendation for fish removal is up to 100 kg fish ha~(-1) a~(-1) (RUUHIJAERVI OLIN 2002). It seems possible to reduce phosphorus and chlorophyll a contents in more northern lakes with smaller catches (65 kg ha~(-1) a~(-1)).
