Rotating/sliding components that operate at elevated temperatures, such as impellers and pistons, require aluminum alloys having a heat resistance higher than that of conventional aluminum alloys. Kobe Steel has optimized the additive elements to finely disperse precipitates that improve high temperature properties, the homogenization conditions to finely disperse crystallized products and the conditions of plastic deformation to refine grain size. The optimizing of the composition and processing conditions resulted in the development of a new aluminum alloy, "KS2000," having an excellent heat resistance compared with the conventional 2618 alloy.
