This paper is to present an experimental strain analysis onmaterial deformation in fine-blanking process by implementing thestripper design of vee-ring type as well as the plate-type.Experiments have been performed under different combinations of dieclearance and blank holding force by using different types ofstripper configuration. Square grid pattern is photo-etched on thecross-section of a pair of axi- symmetrical cold rolled steelspecimens. On the basis of matrix algebra, finite strains androtations due to the fine-blanking operation using different types ofstripper design configuration are determined from their distorted ghdpatterns. The distributions of the rotation, the direction ofprincipal finite strain and the principal finite strain along theradial direction of the specimen are obtained. In addition, a certaindistribution of surface hardness of the fine-blanked specimen is alsostudied under the situation of using the vee-ring type stripper andthe plate-type stripper. The experimental result shows that eitherusing the vee- ring type stripper or the plate-type stripper, theblank holding force and the die clearance play important roles on thedeformation behaviour in fine-blanking.
