For the determination of the interlaminar Tensile Strength (ILTS)which is the lowest strength that laminated structures exhibit, atesting procedure was developed which avoids the problems of loadtransfer of the devices normally used today. It is based on thediametral compression test and it can be demonstrated that this testreally leads to interlaminar tensile failure inside the material sothat reliable strength values are obtained. This procedure wassuccessfully applied to specimens of a carbon fibre reinforced carbon(CFRC) at temperatures up to 1800 deg. C. It is shown that its ILSTincreases by about a factor of 2 between room temperature and thehighest temperature applied.
