Two aqueous solutions of NiSO4and MnSO42M were examined by xhyphen;ray diffraction. The best agreement with experimental data was achieved using a model in which two hydration shells around the divalent cations and one hydration shell around the sulphate ion were considered, together with some amount of inner sphere ion pairing. The criteria for the choice of the best model are also discussed.
