Australian gas producers, including Royal Dutch Shell and Exxon Mobil, have agreed to make more gas available for the domestic market to avoid a looming supply shortfall following an urgent meeting Wednesday with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. Turnbull said the producers have “given us a guarantee” that more gas will be provided to the national electricity market and have agreed to make more gas available domestically as soon as possible to keep downward pressure on prices. Gas prices on the east coast of the country have been rising recently as LNG exports increase and domestic supply falls (IOD Feb.2’17).
