Buoyed by higher exports to Europe, Russia's state-controlled gas giant Gazprom is now forecasting higher-than-expected gas production in 2017 and says recently expanded US sanctions should not affect the company's strategic plans. In its second-quarter report under Russian Accounting Standards, Gazprom said gas output should reach 453.6 billion cubic meters this year, up from 419.1 Bcm in 2016. The new forecast is in line with the roughly 450 Bcm figure that Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller extrapolated from January-June production data. Gazprom's production increased 18.4 on the year to nearly 232 Bcm in the first six months of 2017, Miller said (IOD Aug.3'17).
