I am bewildered sometimes by the way a few cities seem to have been transported from one continent to another. The instinct, or need, to build cities has been a part of human nature since stone age people built Jericho. It is uncanny to see the remains of mighty cities, built in Mesa-America centuries before Columbus made contact between the hemispheres. Those cities rival anything in Europe, even though mankind in America had no contact with mankind elsewhere. And yet every city in the World reflects the culture which created it, and all cities are different. So why should it be that town planners export ideas to another continent? How can they do it? Is it mere cultural colonialism? Our own cherished Edwin Lutyens knew a thing or two when he designed New Delhi. Where else has it been done? This book tells us a Little mare, and it is an interesting read.
