The best dissertation submitted during 2007 to 2008 to the Department of Process and Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Lodz, Poland, is honoured by Bayer Technology Services GmbH (BTS) thus extending its research and recruiting network to Eastern Europe. Dr. Anna Antecka received the EUR 1000 prize for her dissertation "The Kinetic Model of Lacasse Biosynthesis with Cerrena unicolor and the Application of the Enzyme for the Degradation of Selected Aromatic Compounds". Her interdisciplinary paper discusses the use and production of the enzyme lac-case, and makes an innovative contribution to sustainable enzyme produc- tion processes for the textiles industry. The enzyme can decolor waterbome colorant solutions and is a cost-effective, ecological alternative to conven- tional chemico-physical agents.
