Surveys on offshore floating and semi rigid platforms are often performed under exacting contractual and physical conditions. Severe time constraints on the delivery of final results are commonly imposed due to cost considerations. The choice of a datum plane coordinate system, the task of attempting to set up a theodolite in accordance with the datum plane and techniqaes for performing minor adjustments to observations to correct for the error as a result of the theodolite trunnion axis not being coplanar with the datum plane are addressed.
