摘要

It is a subject that sticks his head above the parapet every now and then and it must get asked in all countries and not just my home territory of the UK. The question is a simple one - should we train owners of buildings in the art of emergency release from stalled lifts? I feel my phone trembling in anticipation of the calls that I am going to get when this edition is published! There are two specific trains of thought in the industry - no (never) and yes! As it happens I have my foot in the yes camp but with the condition that the person receiving the training receives regular refreshers. The other condition that I would impose is that the person receiving the training has the aptitude for the task. I don't wish to demean people but if they don't have two brain cells to rub together they are better of leaving someone trapped in the lift car until competent help arrives!
