摘要

This article describes how, with the aid of a simple product design exercise, students can gain experience of today's sophisticated product development processes through the use of computer assisted time compression techniques. The design of the product involved had been previously used to demonstrate basic manufacturing techniques to undergraduate students. The exercise allows students to be totally involved in concurrent product development activities through the use of TeamSET Concurrent Engineering software and in rapid product development through the use of JP System 5 educational Rapid Prototyping. The exercise demonstrates the effective use of systematic tools in the Design Process and the advantages of quickly obtaining a physical model through the use of rapid prototyping equipment.
