With approval by cabinet of regulations under the Technical standards and Safety Act, the new act is now law. It was proclaimed in the Ontario legislature in June.The new act combines seven pieces of public safety legislation, including acts dealing with boilers and pressure vessels, amusement devices, elevating devices, energy, gasoline handling, operating engineers, and upholstered and stuffed articles. Although these laws were once administered by the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations, the new Act that consolidates them is enforced by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), a not-for-profit corporation without share capital.
