Dr Alex Moulton CBE RDI FEng HonFIED has made oustanding contributions to the fields of bicycle and vehicle design. To celebrate his work, Engineering Designer takes a look at his past achievements and his current project. Born on 9 April 1920, Dr Moulton studied engineering at Cambridge. It was while he was studying at university that he was seconded to the Engine Research Department of Bristol Aero Engines during World War II. After the war he worked for the family company, George Spencer Moulton & Co Ltd, developing rubber suspension systems for vehicles.
