The Importance of solar energy derived from sunlight concentrators. By Eur Ing B N M Zachariades CEng MIET MInst MC MIED, Senior Design Project Engineering Consultant. The object of this article is to highlight the need for solar renewable green energy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and offer a more economical source of power. The global market for photovoltaic (PV) systems has grown by an average of more than 30% per year since 2000. This is far more than any other industry. The initially small sector has become a substantial economic factor. The market volume in the year 2020 will exceed 50.000 MWp sold and the market will become 140 times bigger within 20 years (in 2000 approximately 280 MWp were sold).
