Forecast International estimates that the U.S. DARPA will spend close to $790 million on its Surveillance and Countermeasures Technology project in the coming years. Whether the U.S. Congress actually appropriates this funding remains to be seen. In FY 10, the ATAEM program is expected to fabricate and evaluate critical components for a prototype active electro-magnetic system. The Surveillance and Countermeasures Technology project is a United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) research and development endeavor. Work under the project is to develop sensor technology that will improve the accuracy and timeliness of United States Department of Defense (DoD) surveillance and targeting systems for improved battlefield awareness, strike capability, and battle damage assessment.
