摘要

Japan’s Inpex and France’s Total reached final investment decision (FID) late last week on their 8.4 million ton per year Ichthys LNG project in Australia, a challenging offshore development which has benefited from a surge in LNG demand from Japan — but will have cost a hefty $34 billion to build when it starts up as expected in late 2016. The project includes a central processing facility; a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel; a two-train LNG plant on Blaydin Point in Darwin, Northern Territory, as well as an 889 kilometer gas pipeline, described by Australia’s federal energy minister, Martin Ferguson, as the longest in the southeastern hemisphere.
