摘要

Many valueless substances are generated at iron and steel industries, which are termed as waste materials. Efforts are being made to utilize the waste materials by proper characterization, beneficiation and agglomeration techniques. Effective utilization of dust and sludge from iron and steel making can be possible after upgradation of iron percentage and discard the valueless materials. The percentage of total iron of JSW dust, JSW Sludge and VIZAG Sludge are increased to 61.13 pct, 63.48 pct and 60.04 pct from the initial values of 38.77 pct, 51.64 pet and 49.49 pctrespectively after two-stage beneficiation. By incorporating non-coking coal fines with up-gradated dust and sludge are utilized in producing cold bonded iron oxide-coal composite briquettes/pellets with starch and/ormolasses as binder. This paper highlights the up-gradation and utilization of iron and steel plant wastes (i.e. BOF dust and sludge) by producing iron oxide-coal composite briquettes/pellets. Bonding mechanism of agglomerates is also developed.
