London—Our special Innovation issue features a broad range of new products, as well as interesting new developments in terms of strategy, service, branding technology and infrastructure.Looking back over the past decade at the various companies voted as winners of the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award, it would seem the fresh produce trade itself regards products as most important when it comes to innovation. This year was no exception,with the top three comprising a seedless papaya, a lemon-flavoured tomato and a line of convenient fresh ingredient packs (see p98-99). And while innovation in terms of business strategy might arguably have a longer-lasting impact, there are certainly some large potential gains to be made by developing an eyecatching product that satisfies a niche demand previously unmet by what the market has to offer.
