Santiago—With economic growth in Africa outstripping other regions, the world's second most populous continent is ripe for development as a market for Chilean apples and other fruits.Apples are Chile's leading fruit export to Africa but shipments are stilltiny compared to other export markets. However, this could be about to change. According to a recent study from trade promotion agency ProChile, the pace of Africa's economic development will create significant new opportunities for Chilean fruit exports in the years ahead. Rising income levels and fuelling demand for high-quality imported produce and economic indicators suggest that the continent is on the brink of a boom similar to those seen in China and India the past 20 years.
