One of Scandinavia's leading exporters is confident its range of snack vegetables can achieve the same kind of success abroad as it has already in the Danish market. At the end of June, Danish tabloid newspaper Ekstra Bladet posted a story that was music to the ears of fruit and vegetable marketers across Scandinavia: "Sund slik slar vingummi ud" ("Healthy snack pushes out wine gums"). Remarkably, since their introduction three years earlier, sales of bagged, ready-to-eat carrots at stores run by Coop Denmark had risen to such a level that they were outperforming sales of the highly popular Haribo range of sweets. At long last, the iconic Gummi bear had been superseded by a snack vegetable.
