Faced with the tough economic climate, French kiwifruit producer Prim'land is relying on a combination of quality and variety to increase sales in its key market of Spain. Despite the low temperatures experienced in March 2008, Prim'land's kiwifruit crop succeeded in avoiding any frost damage, thanks to the protection systems in place at its orchards. The wide geographical distribution of the company's plots means that the effect on volumes has been limited. Meanwhile, favourable climatic conditionsduring the summer, with no heatwave and sufficient rainfall, have helped to increase production, which is forecast to be up by approximately 10 per cent, according to the company.
