The banana industry will make a major contribution to the country's efforts to cut its net greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2021. Costa Rica prides itself on being a pioneer in socially and environmentally responsible banana production and the country looks set to achieve another first by making its banana industry fully carbon neutral. The move is part of a government plan to ensure that all of the country's carbon dioxide emissions are offset when it celebrates 200 years of independence in 2021.
