I am about to start restoring a 1969 early Mk3 (internal hinge) Mini to original specification. It has been fitted with the later twin-stalk column controls and a steering lock. Could you tell me if the ignition switch should be on the steering column or in the middle of the switch panel in the dashboard? My Mini is fitted with the later four-switch panel rather than the two-switch panel originally fitted to cars of that vintage. A steering lock was fitted to UK Minis from around October 1970 so your 1969 Mini should have the ignition switch on the switch panel on the dashboard. It sounds as if your Mini has either been modified quite a lot, with later components, or quite possibly, has been reshelled. Check the front subframe. It should be solid-mounted to the car with two bolts either side fixing the subframe towers to the bulkhead crossmember. If it has one large bolt either side then the car has been reshelled and a huge amount of work would be required to achieve a 1969 Mk3 spec.
