Costa de Nijar is one of the leading producers of Tomate La Canada Nijar tomatoes, which its backers says offers a high vitamin C content and a very sweet taste. The shallow valley surrounding the small Almerian town of Nijar is, it is probably fair to say, almost unique when it comes to tomato production. The high saline content of the water that runs through this area of the Andalusian province has been found to have interesting consequences for local growers, in particular tomato producers, with the conditions having been found to produce a very sweet product.
