As asparagus output continues to expand across Peru, the country's leading suppliers are looking to capitalise on the progress achieved so far. The success of the Peruvian asparagus industry is spearheading the country's fresh produce export drive, with a number of grower-shippers now looking to diversify into new products and markets. In comparison to other major asparagus-producing areas, Peru's yields are off the charts, averaging nearly 10 tonnes per hectare and reaching 20 tonnes for some of thecountry's most efficient growers. By comparison, the US and Mexico average around four tonnes to the hectare.
