Following the shining performance put in by the hair care category in the UK over the past year, it might come as little surprise that a number of industry insiders have singled this sector out as the one to watch heading into 2014. For another year, the hair care category shaped up to be full bodied in value, however, it was slighdy lacking in volume. According to Kantar Worldpanel, the value of the UK hair care market grew 1.5% to£1.28bn in the 52 weeks ending the 12 May 2013. But when it came to volume figures, the category experienced a drop of 2.4% to 512.20m units. As expected, shampoos accounted for the majority of the market share, increasing their hold by 2.1% on the previous year period. This was followed by hair colourants and then conditioners, both of which also took a firmer grip on the market up 1.3% and 2.3% on the prior year.
