A $1 billion electric rate relief package finally was signed into law last week by Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, nearly a month after it was sent to him by the General Assembly. Blagojevich, who caught widespread criticism for not immediately signing amended Senate Bill 1592 (EUW, 13 Aug, 1), served notice he intends to try to correct omissions and improve weaknesses in the new law. "It would be sooner than later," Marty Cohen, the governor's consumer affairs advisor, said in an interview. "It's still possible something will happen this year. The Legislature will be back in session soon and, of course, once they're done with the regular session we'll move quickly in the fall veto session or perhaps sooner."
