The Indian economy suffered in the year 2020-21 due to the imposition of national lockdown to contain the spread of covid-19 pandemic. However, most sectors of the economy made a remarkable recovery in the second half of the year when restrictions were lifted. Steel Industry was no exception. After dropping to unheard of lows in the frst quarter, production and consumption of steel had a steady growth, there was unusual surge in prices which helped the companies to make up for the losses in frst two quarters and record better fnancial performance than in 2019-20. This paper analyses the steel industry's performance during the year 2020-21 and prospects for 2021-22 are examined.
