Planar magnetic interactions in the hulsite-type oxyborate Co5.52Sb0.48(02B03)2

摘要

A large number of oxyborates studied up to now exhibit warwickite- or ludwigite-type structure withone-dimensional subunits (ladders or ribbons). The crystalline anisotropy strongly affects the physical proper-ties of these systems. In this paper we present an extensive structural, magnetic, and thermodynamic study ofan oxyborate Co5.525b0.48(02B03)2 with a hulsite-type structure. Differently from previously studied oxybo-rates, this material is characterized by the existence of planes in its structure which confers on it a strongtwo-dimensional (2D) character. This is manifested in the magnetic properties as shown by the low-temperature specific-heat results which are dominated by the contribution of two-dimensional antiferromag-netic magnons propagating in the planes. The 2D oxyborates opens the possibility of finding new and excitingbehavior in these materials.
