This report comes from a dry, windy, dusty Gauteng. Standing in mealie fields logging boreholes in hot, dry and dusty weather certainly makes a geologist realise that he often works in unpleasant circumstances. There has been a lot of activity in the GSSA since the last report. J. Barton went to Seattle to represent the GSSA at a GSA conference and he will no doubt enlighten us all on his trip. A number of meetings have been held with SAMREC, SAMVAL and the SAIMM. Planning for Geoscience Africa 2004 is well under way and is in the capable hands of Uwe Reimold. Mat Mullins has been seconded on to the SAIMM Council and will be representing the interests of the GSSA and geologists on these committees.
