Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, has close to six million residents and the number is forecast to increase to eight million by 2030. In order to meet the demands of its rapidly growing population, the city needs to create an efficient pub lic transport system while also reducing traffic congestion. The US$22.5 billion (?15 billion) Riyadh Metro project aims to do just that: comprising six lines, the network will cover 85 stations on over 178km of tracks. Managed by the Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA), the construction of the metro project began in April 2014 and is due to be completed in 2018.
