摘要

Ionograms from Jicarmaca, an equatorial station in Peru (Lat 11.95(0)S, Long. 76.87(0)W, Magnetic Dip angle 0.640) and Ascension Island, a mid-latitude station in United Kingdom (Lat 7.95(0)S, Long 14.4(0)W Dip angle 38.7(0)S), during the space weather activities of September, 2011 a year of moderate solar activity have been used to study the response of the propagation factor, M(3000) F2 to varying degrees of space weather events. The results revealed latitudinal differences in the quiet time morphology of M(3000) F2 at the two stations. The quiet time differences were magnified during disturbed periods. Geomagnetic storms produced both increases and decreases in the values of M(3000) F2 at the two stations irrespective of the magnitude of the storm. M(3000) F2 was observed to be responsive to the three phases of geomagnetic storms at the two latitudes irrespective of the type of storm. The results also show that strong geomagnetic storms produced greater effects on the propagation factor compared to moderate storms.
