摘要

The effect of chemical treatment on the capacitance of carbon electrodes prepared fromwaste coffee grounds was investigated. Coffee grounds were impregnated with FeCand l_3MgCl_2 and then treated at 900 °C. The resultant carbons were compared with activatedcoffee ground carbons prepared by ZnCl_ 2 treatment. The carbon treatment processes ofFeCl_3 and MgCl_2 were studied using thermal gravimetric analysis, Raman spectroscopy,x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and N_2 and CO_2 adsorption were used to characterizethe activated carbons. Activation with ZnCl_2 and FeCl_3 produced carbons with highersurface areas (977 and 846 m 2/g, respectively) than treatment with MgCl_ 2(123 m~2/g).Electrochemical double-layer capacitances of the carbons were evaluated in 1 M H_2SO_4using two-electrode cells. The system with FeCl_3-treated carbon electrodes provided aspecific cell capacitance of 57 F/g.
