Pittsburgh-based aluminium giant Alcoa first entered the Russian market in 1993. In 2005 the company acquired two major Russian aluminium fabricating facilities in Samara and Belaya Kalitva from Rusal. With an investment of USD750 million both plants in the meantime have been upgraded to meet the international standards set by Alcoa/or its global enterprises. The latest investment is a new coil coating line which was officially launched in the Samara plant in the summer of 2009.
