Cement production in China reached 1.35bn tons in 2007, up 13.5 percent from 1.19bntthe previous year, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Chinas top economic planning body, has reported. Cement sales revenue grew 23.1 percent to reach 410.4bn yuan (US 57 billion dollars). Based on these figures the commission forecasted that cement industry profits would leap more than 60 percent in 2007 when company results are published for the year. All additional cement production in 2007 was for the domestic market. NDRC said that cement exports fell 8.6 percent year-on-year to 33Mt as a result of a cut in government export refund payments. However, exports were almost three times as large as the 11 Mt recorded in 2005. A substantial proportion of exports are by foreign-owned cement plants, many established to export part of their total output.
